New to forecasting  [20/4/2010 14:43:43]

I've recently moved to forecasting due to a departmental restructure, does anyone know of any basic/fundamental forecasting courses and also suggest and good literature.

I'm currently using a workforce management tool but would like to set up my own model as I have historical data and would be interested in where people start?

Thanks

where to start  [20/4/2010 17:43:13]

I have learnt forecasting on job. Yous hould know your maths, you should be analytical i.e converting data into informatiion into intelligence.

Everyone does forecasting of events at some point or other in every day life.

I would recommend you to get a good understanding of jargons such as "trending", "seasonality", "peaks", "troughs", "weighted averages", "regression".

There are many courses on offer on internet as well, but I believe OJT is the best.

Let me know if you want to know more.
