IS BPO LONG TERM IN INDIA  [20/2/2007 07:00:49]

I am wondering what would make India rule BPO for next 20 years!

And what changes would happen in space.

Offshore and the future  [20/2/2007 08:30:11]

I am wondering what would make India rule BPO for next 20 years!

And what changes would happen in space.

Well...

To answer both questions

1) That is making the assumption that India already rules,
I think you'll need to not assume that the work is guaranteed.

At the moment there is a great deal of hostility toward offshore operations,
not so much the BPO rather the customer facing roles.

You need to build faith within the general populous rather
than the industries you're courting to provide a viable SECURE
business model.

I think given the tone of the question you need to understand
for companies there are other options, that the work being done
is not guaranteed and that like any outsource operation can vanish
like raindrops in the sun should market conditions / public opinion
change.

Companies will pull work back to their host countries without hesitation
should it start to affect their bottom line. As soon as customers start
to take their business to a competitor with onshore services they WILL
follow. Business wise it's a bit of a herd mentality, look at
the rush to offshore 5-10 years ago.

In the UK there are now several consumer groups promoting companies that only work onshore.
Do not forget the power of the consumer to 'Vote with their feet'.

All in all don't take it for granted.

2) Well, I'd like to see the second generation reusable shuttle
actually make it off the drawing board.

The ISS might actually get finished.

I'd really really like to see the promotion of the SPS (Power Sats)
system. This is tried and tested technology, it just needs upping in scale.

The potential for power generation, without consuming resources down here,
is huge!.

Investment in pure research and technology has never failed to
pay off!.

HTH

BPO in India  [20/2/2007 08:40:21]

Thanks Dave,

Indeed your observations were the reason to ask the question.

Customers would need world class service all times and Principals ( who outsource) would certainly demand less price....and to add employees are asking for salry hike every six months.

Therefore we at India need to think about Offshoring to continue at better pace so that this 2nd largest populataed country keep the employment growing.

Lets together we all start thinking on making India more competitive and customer freindly continuously.

Lets work together to make options for customers of clients of outsourced companies a happy and smiling lot.

As you mentioned....its the consumer who would give us business.

More suggestions to have India rule BPO are needed ( I correct its not ruling now but has potential!)

THANKS

Lets together we all start thinking on making India more competitive

If by competitive you mean price then I think this will be India's downfall.

If the only real advantage that India can offer is price then it won't be long before it's overtaken by a less developed country with a much weaker economy. Here, they will be able to offer the same service and a hugely reduced price.

For India to be successful it must concentrate on the two things that it has to it's advantage: a good post-colonial relationship with the UK, and the high intelligence of the population. I believe it's the latter which will see the BPO economy continue to boom.
