Comment facility in Voices  [7/2/2005 12:12:09]

Hi everyone.

CallCentreVoices Comment Facility

I've modified the WordPress code so that now the nasty comment spam (that you don't see but I have to delete every day) should now be rejected outright (saving me time). When you now comment to an article, one of three things should happen:

(1) Your comment is accepted and immediately visible - in cases where you have two or fewer URLs and your name, email, URI and comment does not contain any of the 'restricted words'.

(2) Our algorithm reckons that you're probably okay - you might have inadvertently used one or two restricted words, but by and large it all looks okay. You won't see your comment immediately, as we'll have placed it in a moderation queue where one of the moderators will either approve or remove your comment.

(3) You are Texas Holdem king, comment-spamming from some zombie PC. You won't even make it to our moderation queue. Go away and infest someone else's site, nasty person.

There is, of course, a small risk that your comment might well fall into category (3) by accident - in which case it will be rejected. I'd like to advise anyone who wishes to comment (and who is unsure about what is and what isn't acceptible) to check that they haven't used any of the naughty words, and perhaps take a copy before submitting your comment. WordPress isn't quite as sophisticated as it can be, so at the moment a type (3) incident will lose the comment text. Be warned...

Comment Frequency

The other note is that I've upped the length of time members must spend between comments to two minutes (from ten seconds) to help with the above. I reckon that that is a reasonable compromise.

Please let me know via the contact pages if you encounter any difficulties.

John
