Reducing noise in call centres  [26/4/2006 12:06:52]

Good Morning,

I am responsible for resource management in Vodafone Malta's call centre which caters for around 45 reps.

We are facing an excess noise issue and would like to address it with relevant equipment which could help us reduce noise. I have obtained some quotations for specific White noise machines which could help us out, however I would like to know whether any of you have experienced the same problems in their call centre , and if /how they have addressed .

An advice on the best brand of equipment to use would be really appreciated

tks
Gabriella Cappitta

Excessive noise  [26/4/2006 15:33:52]

Too many staff in too small a space is probably the issue.

I'd suggest you seriously consider if this is the case - the easiest way to reduce noise is to give the guys some breathing room.

The you can consider the material that makes up the floor, ceiling, desk dividers and blinds. All of these can have very positive effects on the sound level.

If the background noise makes it difficult to hear, then binaural headsets will make a big difference. Well worth the extra £20 or so. Also consider replacing old headsets - I know several sites that have found it much easier to hear after replacing their 10-year-old supra headsets.

Plants  [5/5/2006 14:40:54]

Hi. My first post and this subject is something that has recently come to my attention with my helpdesk. I recently moved 3 small helpdesk into the same area to enable better cross-communication between teams and create a greater synergy between them.

There is enough space in the room so it isnt crowded.

Money is tight (as ususal) and i started to look for ways to reduce the noise. Naturally we are investing in some partitions to reduce some of the noise, but one thing we are spending money on is plants.

Not only can the right types of plants help reduce noise but it is believed it can help with sickness and performance levels in any workplace.

Worth considering anyway.

Plants...  [5/5/2006 14:42:55]

Plants make for a more pleasant working environment anyway, so long as someone remembers to water them. And, of course, there's nothing worse than 'fake' plants... it just reeks of corporate-lack-of-soul...

Serviced Plants  [5/5/2006 18:33:58]

Some organisations adopt "serviced" plants, where they are supplied by a company that also maintains them for you (water, prune, etc.).

Just a thought.

white noise  [20/4/2011 13:48:04]

Gabriella, Do you have any updates as to your findings / actions, I too am keen to learn more about white noise generators to cancel out background noise.
